Trail Safety
As trail guide author Kim McCarrel states in her book “Riding Central Oregon Horse Trails”, “Anyone who has spent time around horses knows that things can happen, especially when you are on the trail…The result could be that you or your horse end up hurt or stranded miles from your trailer and dozens of miles from help.”
Proper planning, preparation, education and good common sense will help keep you and your horse safe. Make your next trail ride your best…and safest!
~ Your Safety Is Your Responsibility~
Before you head out on any trail be sure you know:
- your skills and limitations
- your horse’s skills and limitations
- your fellow riders and their skill level and limitations
- the trail and weather conditions
- what could go wrong
- how to be prepared
- how to get help
