Perfect riding setting for hot summer days. Ride to Mt Hebo, ride to the Nestucca River - it is all possible from here!

This trail is located on State Land leased by the West Valley Chapter of Oregon Equestrian Trails. See the NWET Events Calendar for work party events in this area.

Trail Type, Distance & Elevation:
The Upper Nestucca Equestrian Trailhead and surrounding area includes approximately 3 miles of trails - however almost limitless riding is accessible from this area. The trails can be completed as loops or out and back. Some trail sections are still being developed.

The trail terrain is a bit steep leaving from the parking area but levels out some at the higher elevations. Trails consist of single track with dirt/rock footing to old logging roads of rock and gravel. The creek crossing on the John's Landing (yellow) portion of the trail can be a bit deep in mud - caution is advised.

Elevation 1,900 - 2,400 feet MSL

There is ample parking for 4 - 5 rigs in the gravel parking lot which is easily accessed via paved roads.

Camping & Corral Availability:
No camping is allowed at this trailhead. No corrals are available, however there are two hitching posts in the parking area.

There are no services, restrooms, or water available at the trail head. Water may be intermittently available in the creek crossing area.

Rules & Regulations:
There are no fees for using the trailhead or trail system. Rules are posted at the trail head. No motorized vehicles are allowed within the boundary of the state land - however riders may encounter logging trucks and OHV's when riding beyond the state land boundaries. What timber company owns the lands that most of the trails go on? Is it closed for riding during fire season?

Glad you enjoyed the riding! OET has been working hard to make the trails safe and well marked. The trails will continued to improve the more they are used. Although the trails are being marked with colored diamonds and paint, it is best to bring a map if you can, especially if you like to go exploring.

Trails were nice but weren’t well marked, so make sure you have a trail map to know where the trails are. Can be dangerous getting to some of the trail heads because you have to walk down the paved road and many vehicles, including logging trucks, going flying down that road around the corners. Also, they aren’t kidding when they say there is some steep terrain! Overall was a very nice ride though and I will be going back :)
